Lemon Loaf Treatment.
It’s an understatement to say I’ve been frugal with my funds lately, because lately started four years ago. I usually sacrifice even small slices of happiness for my budget’s sake. In the case of the Starbucks Lemon Loaf, I heavily contemplated buying a companion for my coffee. I tried to convince myself I wasn’t “that hungry really”. I held up the line contemplating. I discussed it with my friend who was on the phone.
Why?
“_____ store has the same thing for a dollar!” I countered. Realizing I’d be no richer from not satisfying my tastes, I decided to get the lemon loaf. Cringing, I pulled towards to window. I wasn’t happy until I tasted it. I knew I had wanted it, and was unwilling to satisfy a small desire based on the fact it wasn’t free. Do I only deserve free things? Am I not worth the few dollars I would expect a suitor to spend without a blink?
The sour suck in my jaws jolted me with excitement. Sensual pleasure in the middle of July. I felt almost ashamed of my sinful, pleasurable indulgence right in broad daylight. Bite, smack, sip. Until it was all gone. I tossed my trophies into the trash, satisfied.
Realizing how good I felt from something seemingly thoughtless was a milestone for me. I overcame self imposed limits to attain a goal! The therapeutic nature of the lemon loaf being mine to enjoy should spill out into the other restrictive habits of mine. The cost of happiness is minimal. Indeed, I deserve the lemon loaf treatment.
